Alzheimer’s has no cure. Maybe it can be blocked or slowed down. Here are my findings on a coffee recipe that has possibilities.

Alzheimer’s — You should be worried, I am, and the older I get, the more I worry.

let me start by being very clear. I cannot prevent Alzheimer’s, nor can I cure it. Period. As of now, nobody and no institution has this capability.

The good news, though, is that there are many supplements and food ingredients that show promise in delaying, slowing, or even preventing Alzheimer’s disease.

I’ve put these things in ALCOR, my special coffee recipe. Stick with me, and you’ll get exact details on how to make it…

First, though, let’s get Alzheimer’s Disease out of the way:

The opening signs of Alzheimer’s are usually problems with memory. These problems are followed by trouble thinking and difficulty doing routine tasks. These things do not necessarily mean that you have Alzheimer’s; this requires a diagnosis.

They are a definite warning, however, and you should see a professional.

If it’s Alzheimer’s, it gets worse to a point where its victims have trouble doing everyday things like household chores and caring for themselves. This condition can progress to a point where the Alzheimer’s victim is totally dependent on others.

Ok, but this post is not about assessing Alzheimer’s. Many of you reading this have been touched by Alzheimer’s or know of someone who has. It is a tragic experience. But, like any other disease, early detection and prevention are the best medicine.

So, starting today, using the tools we have now, how can you fight Alzheimer’s?

OK, now we’re getting to what this article is about. What can you do while you’re healthy to delay, defer, or prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s?

Fortunately, it turns out that there are many correlations between foods and supplements and the slowing of or absence of Alzheimer’s. This post (for people of all ages) discusses these and gives you a coffee recipe containing many ingredients that correlate with a low incidence of Alzheimer’s.

Once again, this is not a guarantee or a cure. It is based on correlations. I don’t want to get off track, but I know that correlations and causes are two different things. So, to be clear, I am using ingredients that have positive correlations with the delay or prevention of Alzheimer’s.

Where appropriate, I will back this up with studies.

ALCORE Coffee: You can’t buy it. You gotta make it yourself.

ALCORE (Alzheimer’s Coffee Recipe). Here’s what you’ll need to make it:

  1. Coffee beans of your choice. Decaff or regular is fine — it doesn’t matter.
  2. Coffee grinder. This is the one I use — around twenty bucks.
  3. French press This is the one I use for making coffee. Get a good one. You will be using it every day. It is also good to get an extra glass container replacement. These can break and get cracked.

Here’s why you need these things:

Coffee Beans: Coffee beans have a long shelf life, and each bean has a hard shell. This guarantees that every time you grind the coffee, it’s fresh. This is important because ground coffee loses some of its value as a health drink. Exposure to air, heat, time, and light does this. Grinding your coffee right before using it provides fresh coffee with all its goodness intact.

Note: When you buy coffee beans, get organic beans. These cost a little more, but regular coffee beans get sprayed a lot, and you don’t want this self-defeating contamination — stick with organic. The type of bean and the roasting levels are up to you.

Before moving on to roasting, there are differing opinions. Personally, I keep several canisters of different beans and different roasts. My opinion — I don’t think roasting makes much difference. It’s a personal taste issue.

French pressing coffee: (See this instructional video)

French pressing ground coffee strains it rather than filtering it. Filtering absorbs a lot of the coffee’s oils and other nutrients. You want the oils because they contain many of the molecules that make coffee a healthy drink. French pressing your coffee guarantees that the “good-health” things aren’t filtered out.

Note: with french pressing, you will see a little “mud” in the bottom of your coffee cup — there are many good things in this mud that you don’t want to miss. Swish it around and drink it.

Before we go on to other ingredients, here’s a great article on coffee and Alzheimer’s — simple to read. Drinking fresh coffee by itself is the first step in fighting Alzheimer’s.

Moving On Now, Here are Seven Ingredients that might slow or prevent Alzheimer’s:

First, these ingredients change but will not ruin the taste of your coffee. I drink this every morning and love the taste. Unless otherwise noted, for all of the ingredients below, the dose is one level teaspoon. Put each of them into the glass container with the ground coffee before adding hot water. All of these powders are semi-soluble and easily stirred in before straining with the press.

  • Note: after adding your hot water, stir vigorously and wait ten minutes before pressing. Use a plastic or wooden spoon for stirring. Metal spoons can damage the glass container making it unusable.

Ingredients:

Green Tea:

The ECGC in green tea is shown to un-tangle the tau protein buildup representative of Alzheimer’s’ disease.

“Researchers have discovered how a molecule found in green tea breaks apart tangles of the protein tau, a characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease.” (Quoted from the article linked above.)

Here’s an article that’s easier to read about green tea and Alzheimer’s.

The bottom line. Green tea has shown promise in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s. Any green tea will do here — your choice.

Hint: buying green tea in bulk will save you quite a bit of money, and avoid the hassle of tearing open tea bags. This is true also with black tea.

Black Tea:

Black tea contains theaflavins. There are several of these, and they have been shown to interfere with the formation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and α-synuclein (αS), two components of amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s.

Cinnamon: (Who doesn’t love cinnamon?)

Here’s an easy-to-read article on cinnamon and Alzheimer’s. Here is another. This last one is more technical but worth your time.

Cinnamon is thought to interfere with the plaque-forming process in Alzheimer’s disease. (By the way, Ceylon cinnamon is my choice based on purity and processing issues that have little to do with this post. The cinnamon link I give you is for organic Ceylon cinnamon. The cinnamon you get at stores is usually processed.)

Cocoa (aka Cacao — same thing):

Ok, you know you love cocoa, and now you know it loves you. Put it in your coffee. Cocoa Powder Triggers Neuroprotective and Preventive Effects in a Human Alzheimer’s Disease Model by Modulating BDNF.

Do not use flavored or sweetened Cocoa. I personally use Hershey’s powdered cocoa. You can get this just about anywhere, and it’s inexpensive. If you want organic cocoa, you might have to go online to get it.

Taurine: Here’s what I use.

Here’s a simple-to-read article about Taurine’s neuroprotective qualities. Taurine is an amino acid made in your body. Taurine levels decline with age. This decline is thought to contribute to neurodegeneration. Add two capsules to the French press container.

Strawberries: (Powdered, this is what I use.)

Here is a very readable article about strawberries and Alzheimer’s.

Magnesium Threonate: Here’s what I use.

Here’s a simple article about magnesium and brain health. Magnesium Threonate is particularly important because it passes through the blood-brain barrier. This makes it easier for your brain to get the magnesium it needs for healthy function.

This is a powder, but It comes in a capsule. I suggest two capsules a day in your coffee. Just take the capsules apart and put the contents in with the other ingredients.

Now you have everything you need for your morning ALCORE Coffee treat.

Here are a couple of tips: First, get some air-tight containers for your powders. This protects them from moisture and keeps them fresh. Second, keep any partially filled bags of powder sealed and in a freezer. They will last indefinitely with this storage method.

Here’s a link to the air-tight containers I use and the teaspoons I use. (I keep the spoons in the containers with the powders — using the same spoon for all the ingredients might contaminate the ingredients.)

Note: Where applicable, all of the powders (except Hershey’s cocoa) I recommended are non-GMO and Organic. Taurine and Magnesium Threonate are supplements.

About creamers:

I use and enjoy creamers in my coffee. I have not seen anything disallowing this. So if you like creamers and sweeteners in your coffee, don’t worry about it. Enjoy your ALCORE Coffee. The better you like it, the more likely you’ll drink it.

Enjoy your coffee, and put a banana peel out for Alzheimer’s to slip on and bust its ass.

About ALCORE.

ALCORE is a perpetual “work in progress” project. I am constantly researching life-extending and anti-aging materials. When I discover new and promising ingredients for ALCORE, I will publish an updated post to keep my subscribers current. In the future, I will publish these updates as ALCORE UPDATE # (Number). I will do this whenever new and promising news comes out.

Alzheimer’s takes many otherwise healthy people to their graves. This is a heavily researched disease, and progress is being made on the medicine/treatment side. In future posts, I will include this information as well.
