Triads…

Supplement triads are related supplements taken in groups of three. For example, taking a well-designed multivitamin along with Omega-3 and vitamin D3 is an introductory triad for anyone who wants to start a supplement program.

In fact, this is the program I recommend to all OMYS who are just getting started. I usually look at supplements in triads because a well-considered triad of supplements usually complements each other.

So instead of adding one supplement at a time, it is usually better to add groups of two or three. Using supplement triads is a simple idea that has many advantages. This post introduces the “triad concept” and explains how it works for you.

I will also give you a starting triad to get you going down the right path.

Supplement Disclaimer:

Many of you are using supplements now, and that’s fine – don’t stop using them. Some of you are not using supplements right now, and that’s fine, too – I will give you starting instructions at the end of this post.

  1. Supplements can complement and enhance each other.
  2. Supplement programs are usually started with a triad of complementary items.
  3. Programs are usually followed for at least 90 days before additions are made.
  4. Additions are usually made in groups of two or three after the program’s beginning or the program’s most recent addition.

H healthy diet is always the first step towards getting in your OMYZONE, and should be in place before you start supplementing. It takes six months for your “healthy diet” system to reach stable equilibrium before introducing supplement triads.

If you’re already in this healthy eating category and your system is stabilized, you’re ready to start your supplement plan. Before you start supplementing with triads, though, let’s discuss the methodology.

Supplementing is like baking a cake:

Baking a cake has two elements ingredients and a recipe. Think of supplements as your ingredients and planning their use as your recipe.

Every cake has different ingredients and a different recipe, and every OMY will eventually have different supplement triads and dosing applications. We are all different, and there is no single ingredient list or recipe that’s best for everyone.

We want to bake a beautiful and delicious cake, just like we want to live an energetic, healthy OMYLIFE.

Adding Ingredients and following the recipe:

When we’re mixing our cake’s ingredients, we don’t dump them all in a mixing bowl and start up the mixer. This would result in a mess and a failure of the desired outcome.

Instead of dumping everything in a bowl, we fold ingredients onto the mixing bowl in a specific order and at a specific time. When prepared properly, the batter developed with this process delivers the desired outcome.

The final step is the proper baking of the cake. Yes, there is a process here too, but we need the batter first. Both the batter and the baking are step-driven processes that, when combined properly, produce the beautiful and delicious cake we desire.

Creating supplement Triads and using them properly also involves ingredients and a recipe. It’s now time to turn to them.

Let’s take a look at the strategy behind Triads and Planned Supplementation:

The simple supplement triad I will recommend is a fundamental starter that anyone can use. I won’t go into the details yet, because I want to give you reasons for the Triad strategy model.

Reasons for using Triads: Starting out or retrofitting your current program.

  1. Triads help you manage your supplementation better by working with groups of supplements rather than individual items. Believe me. It can get complicated.
  2. With Triads, there is less to keep track of. For example, four Triads are easier to manage than 12 supplements.
  3. You can create “staggered” Triads. Examples are; Once a week, every other day, before and after a workout, and even flu-season Triads. Keeping track this way is far easier than tracking each supplement individually.
  4. You might create a Triad calendar and plan your daily supplementing weeks or even months in advance.
  5. You can change the contents of a Triad at any time without disrupting a whole series of events. For example, you can go from a 2000 IU dose of D-3 to a 5000 IU dose without any change in your planning – the Triad timing remains the same.
  6. Finally, there is special packaging for Triads, color coding, and even travel packs. Just think of Triads as building blocks.

Supplement Triad rules:

Finally, let’s talk about Triad rules.

  • A Triad should have at least three supplements but can have more. For example, a flu season Triad might have four or five supplements inside. These inside supplements can be changed as needed, but it’s still the flu supplement Triad or simply the flu triad – that doesn’t change.
  • If a Triad has less than three supplements, these should be put in another triad. The idea is to minimize things to organize and keep track of. Triads are about keeping things simple.
  • You can think of supplement Triads as building blocks that address a specific purpose and strengthen your supplement routine. Adding Triads instead of “pills” creates structural integrity. Think of a puzzle with hundreds of pieces. At first, it looks like a random pile of pieces, but as these pieces are put in groups, a structure emerges. The same thing will happen as your supplement Triad program grows.
  • There are foundational triads and special needs Triads. Foundational Triads are a fundamental basis of your supplement program. Special needs Triads are add-ons. Special needs examples are travel packs, flu Triads, and before/after workout Triads – these are put together as needed.
  • Foundational Triads are thought through and considered carefully based on what they contain and their intended benefit. Changes to these Triads are made seldom and with much consideration. Foundational Triads are added (folded in) to your supplement plan once every six months – not sooner.

Strategy for Planned Supplementation:

Supplement Triads are added to your supplement regimen carefully after serious consideration. Like baking our cake, we don’t just throw a bunch of ingredients in a mixing bowl and go from there. We follow the rules in the recipe. The same goes for supplement Triads, and we have rules about timing.

Supplements have potent effects on your metabolism and overall health. An unwritten OMY rule is that when it comes to supplements, proceed with caution. When you start with your first Triad or fold in a new one, you must give your body time to assimilate the powerful effects of your actions. I personally have followed the six-month rule with success.

This means that I’ve had no bad side effects from supplementation. I’ve also seen the benefits as my body assimilates the power of wise supplementation. These changes are both subjective and objective, and I always keep my HCP in the loop.

Supplements are powerful; choose your triads carefully.

And finally, here is the starting Triad I recommend:

  1. Two Per Day Multivitamins by Lifextension. These are my favorite. I have taken them for many years. I like them because they contain selenium and an especially powerful form of quercetin.
  2. Vitamins D and K by Lifextension. These two vitamins are critical for bone and circulatory health. Many supplement companies overlook the power of Vitamin K2. This powerful and health-giving vitamin is provided in a full day’s dose in this supplement. See more on K2 here.
  3. Omega 3 Plus by Lifextension. Importantly, this contains Krill oil and Astaxanthin, giving these supplements extra punch. Astaxanthin is one of the most powerful antioxidants available.

Note: Enteric Coated Fish Oil by Lifextension. If you can’t stomach fish oil and have burping issues, this is an enteric form of fish oil.

All of these supplements are Non-GMO.

To save money, if any of these items are on sale, buy ahead – they all have a long shelf-life, and are fundamental to your supplement program.

I personally take all three of the above supplements. This does not mean you should. You should consider them as a starting option for your supplement program or a re-starting option for your current program. Read independent sources (non-supplement makers) about the value of these supplements and make the best decision for yourself.
